Happily Ever After

Beliefs are funny things. Often we don't even realize that we believe something.

For example, today it dawned on me that I have unconsciously bought into the idea of "happily ever after." I guess I consumed enough fairy tales, books, stories, and movies to buy into that idea that there can be a moment in time when all my problems would be solved — that I will find my prince, we will get married, and we will rule the Kingdom in the most benevolent ways so our people will be happy, the land pure, and no wars or conflict will ever happen again.

Another funny thing about beliefs is that sometimes, once you bring that unconscious belief into the light of awareness, you realize how silly it is!

Obviously, that "Happily Ever After Land" doesn't exist, at least on this planet. And even if it did, how awfully boring that would be! Can you imagine a movie, a story, or a video game where the hero would have no obstacles to overcome? It sounds kind of depressing and not interesting even a little bit. Thankfully, once we remove one obstacle, life itself gives us something else to overcome — another place to expand, evolve, and grow. More ways for self-expression seem to be the way.

And yet, somehow unconsciously I was trying to get to that place in paradise. I was even feeling like an imposter to market my coaching services to people because, you know, my life is not all rainbows and unicorns. Even though I have a pretty good life, sometimes I get mad. Sometimes I argue with people. Sometimes I feel very sad and frustrated looking at the growing number of homeless people in my town. Sometimes I feel very scared about drugs. Sometimes I rage at the system. Sometimes my kid yells that she hates me. Sometimes my husband drives me crazy, and sometimes I run out of poop bags and the dog produces another deposit...

How can I promise other people that promised land?! I can't!

So, what is it I am selling then?
I am selling the idea of life where you suffer less and enjoy more. I stand behind that idea 100%. I actually do have an amazing life. I have been able to create so many things that I was dreaming of — I have been self-employed for over 16 years, I just came back from a fun family trip, I have a wonderful kid, an awesome dog, and even though my husband sometimes drives me crazy, he is actually a kind and caring human being.

Some of my clients quit their jobs. Some of them found new, more aligned ones. Some clients ended relationships that didn't nourish them and improved other relationships. All of them improve the most important relationship of them all — their relationship with themselves. All of them develop a stronger backbone so they don't have to bend to the will of others quite so much. All of them enjoy being themselves more. And that? That is priceless if you ask me. That is time well spent.

So, yeah, while I cannot promise you a happily ever after, I CAN promise you less suffering and more joy, should you wish to do the work.
